First impressions count: onboarding has a disproportionate influence on an employee's understanding of your culture. 

And if you don't get onboarding right, people leave. All your recruitment efforts go down the drain and you take a repetitional hit to your employer brand. 

In a scale-up, you need to get people up to speed as soon as possible. You only get value from your recruitment pipeline when people are effective and contributing. If you don't get onboarding right, it can take people months to work out what they need to do and how they can best contribute to your growth.
